光绪三十年湖北省造大清银币库平一两一枚，光绪三十年十二月初一，湖北银圆局改名银币局开始制造新银币，模具由日本大阪造币厂制作,分为大字、小字两版。此俗称“湖北壹两”的银币，是中国最早在币面上铭文“大清银币”的，也是流通币中，除吉林“厂平壹两”外唯一的“两”制币。“湖北壹两”推行并不成功，失败原因主要是相异于原本通行的七钱二分银圆的形制，使用不便，反而增加困扰；其次，各地平法不一，仍然要相互折算才能通行，故而发行时间短，发行量极少，为钱币大珍。
